Family Testimonials
"In May of 1977, my first son was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia. We were told that he had 20% chance of living 2 years. At that time all chemotherapy treatments were done at Children's Hospital in Denver and for 4 years we frequently stayed at the Ronald McDonald house in Denver. It was definitely our home away from home, even though at that time we were not allowed to bring our two daughters with us. Later in treatment, we also went to Philadelphia and stayed at the original Ronald McDonald house and went to California and stayed at the house in Palo Alto. Our son passed away in March, 1981, and a day rarely passes that I don't think of my son. And I will always be thankful for the Ronald McDonald House."

"Over 10 years ago, our young family called Salida, Colorado home. My husband and I were expecting our first - a baby girl. When there were complications with the pregnancy, our doctor sent us to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Beautiful Serenity arrived early, at just 32 weeks, weighing 4 lb. 1 oz.
Unable to drive back and forth from Salida every day, nurses at Memorial suggested we stay at the Ronald McDonald House. I was initially reticent. There was so much going on. I didn't know if I could stay in a place filled with strangers; so much was unknown. However, that all changed once I walked through the front door. I quickly realized the Ronald McDonald House was my home-away-from-home. Staff and volunteers had thought of everything we would need, from hot meals to support to a comfortable bed.
We stayed at the House during the 5 weeks Serenity was hospitalized. The 'strangers' became my friends. One even helped save my life after I experienced a delivery complication.
Having moved to Colorado Springs, our family has been involved with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado for the last decade.
Several years ago, we created the Healing Garden on the north side of the Ronald McDonald House in memory of our son, Sterling Michael. Families staying at the House today enjoy this beautiful permanent space - one that we hope will continue to be a blessing for many more families for years to come.
We are so thankful for the life-saving work of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado."
